FEUDAL TITLES STRIPPED BUT FEUDAL USAGE CONTINUES

FEUDAL TITLES STRIPPED BUT FEUDAL USAGE CONTINUES

Parliament has long back passed the Anti-Zamindari Act. Monarchical and feudal titles are a thing of the past and can no longer be used in the Indian democracy. Why is it then that we continue to address monks as Maharaj (great king)? It seems our age-old feudal culture is still holding us in its octopus grip. No wonder Swamiji had said in his lecture 'Is Vedanta the Future Religion?' that Vedanta will not find its home on a broad basis in India because India cannot give up His Majesty the King. Perhaps, monks themselves should resist being called Maharaj and prefer Sadhuji instead. A point to ponder.
