The volcanic words of the cyclonic Swami. Description paradoxical? So, let it be. Common link is in terms of the force and the fire involved.

The glorious thing about Swamiji was that he was so positive despite the seemingly overwhelming odds he had to encounter and overcome throughout his adult life when he had to battle for his impoverished family and chose to fight for the resurrection of the world sinking in the mire of ignorance and misery.

Today the nation celebrates Swamiji's birthday as the National Youth Day. Directed by the dying Indira Gandhi and instituted by her visionary son Rajiv, this day perennially marks the celebration of eternal youth rising up and refashioning the world for the sustenance of humanity. Now let us bring Vivekananda victorious before the youth of the hopeful morrow.

If the individual is the universal, the moment is eternity and a point encapsulates the endless stretches of space, what fear then, friend, of the mighty and the menacing, your own Self riding over it all as the charioteer does his chariot?

Strength, Swamiji said, is the watchword of the Upanishads.

It is bounden on each one of us to nourish the child-body with nutritious food and the child-mind with fertile thought. And what better than to bring Vivekananda home to them like many a mother does to her would be brave children? Blessed are such children who have received such mothers' grace!

Even if one gazes at this leonine form of Swamiji standing before the world audience in Chicago and delivering his momentous speeches, one is bound to be transported in space and time to an ethereal realm.

The central theme of Swamiji's words seems to be that undying manhood what Swamiji himself has dubbed 'the (roaring) Lion of the Vedanta'.

This nation will live if it heeds Swamiji.

Read, read Swamiji till his words vibrate in your brain and your whole being becomes consonant with his life-giving message.

Your Sangha does not speak a word against conversion of Hindus to Islam and Christianity when they hold interfaith meets. This is not expected of the Sangha whose Avatār-anointed express purpose ought to be destruction of the evildoers, the saving of the virtuous and the establishment of the Sanātan Dharma as it truly is and not as it is conveniently manufactured into to suit whatever purpose you know best.

FLYING ON THE WINGS OF FACT, FANCY, FICTION 

A spiritual movement spreads rapidly if it can bring to its followers an unearthly sense full of sublime suggestions. Naturally, mythology and archaic ideas can creep in as well into the mass of distributed literature which will fire up the minds of the masses with strange notions and fancies, irrational hopes and dreams, but will keep the movement going if it is well fuelled by daily ritualistic discipline and austere observances, spiritual practices that nourish the psychophysical person, making him happier and peaceful. At any rate cherishing beautiful dreams is no worse than being beaten with rude realities of the mundane world. The flights of fancy that mythology releases in the prone mind makes for even spiritual growth when activity is restrained by ethical observances and spiritual exercises. To top it all, if the devotees are made to understand that their chosen path is the best path, the perfect path and the only path to ultimate perfection and proximity to the Lord, you have hit the bull's eye. The movement will then take to wings and spread like cyclone.

THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET 

Dennis Lillee for all his boorish behaviour would have fared rather badly with, say, hypothetical skipper Bradman. Foul-mouthing opponents (Gavaskar), physically fighting them (Lillee-Miandad case⁵), kicking at the stumps¹ (after dismissing Viv Richards in a provincial one-day match after bouncing him four times in succession), aluminum bat², all this and so much more certainly made the greatest fast bowler of all time a spectacle but like John Snow⁴ purposefully colliding with Gavaskar, would have landed Lillee in deep trouble with the Don of old school cricketing ethics, what in cricketing parlance is called 'the spirit of the game'. 

The 1981 Adelaide Test Match³ memory of Lillee/Aussie rude behaviour against Gavaskar and company rankles still. Lillee's general demeanour aided by the Chappell brothers allowing him undue latitude created on-field unpleasantness that has permanently in the minds of many tarnished his image. Rude boy Lillee will live in memory as a great fast bowler who did his country proud with his incredible cricketing achievements but shamed her with his uncricketing attributes as well for good and set in a dangerous precedent to check which the Rule Book had to be rewritten by the ICC. What a far cry from Bill Woodfull's impeccable ethical response to Jardine's and the MCC's 'unsportsmanlike' attitude in their bid to browbeat Bradman in the Bodyline Series! The Don in his interview⁶ 'Don Bradman: 87 not out' categorically denounced the use of what has been euphemistically called 'gamesmanship', what Steve Waugh notoriously called 'mental disintegration' tactics, and said that were he the captain of Australia when any player so transgressed, he would have warned him once and, should he have repeated the selfsame offense, would never have picked him again. 

That, gentlemen, is Sir Donald George Bradman speaking the final word on the disrepute to which the Lillees, the Chappells, the Steve Waughs and the Ricky Pontings, mentioning here by way of a larger representative illustration only a handful of significant Australian cricketers who he could as captain and administrator have hypothetically restrained the way the spirit of cricket deems it best for the game. And there's Lillee for you.

There is a depth to voice that comes through deep concentration and sustained practice which shows up in rendition of classical vocal music, even in conversation, something that transports the audience to a higher realm, transcending the existent surroundings and reaching an altered order of existence altogether. So hard to express it in words but felt so easily by perceptive ones when men of experience speak, recollecting memories that lie in the depths of their hearts but, recalled, stir afresh reflections of events of the past in live colours that secondary sources can scarce reveal. This depth-diffeence is so apparent in interviews when the interviewee sinks into depth-memory while the interviewer belonging to distracted breed of the modern kind casually interrupts his reminiscence and reflection by shifting his focus to more commonplace things of lesser consequence. This indeed is felt by great actors, by film directors when they try to level depth-differences in personality of players to arrive at a seamless presentation of performance. In everyday life this is hidden in commonplace talk based in the same frame of time and place but in reminiscence becomes apparent when individuals are mind-located differently. This, perhaps, is also the reason why communication is so rare in this world of easy misunderstanding, egotistical personalised interpretation based on insufficient sympathy that fails to connect and huge differences in historical positioning and perspective. But above all, to return to roots, it is this difference in depth of personality that creates this communication gap, this unbridged difference in feeling, as in love, as in conversation, as in going down memory lane in interviews of men steeped in the past. Bridging differences is good, but must it come at the cost of loss of the real that lives in the silent chambers of the heart where chamber music is still on?

Srila Prabhupāda's Guru, Srila Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvati Thākur, who had commissioned his disciple Abhaycharan (later Prabhupāda) to carry the message of the Gauriya Vaishnava version of the Vedas to the West. Prabhupāda set sail in 1965 at the age of 69 and over the next 12 years circumvented the world 14 times to spread the Vaishnava spiritual message, in the process publishing 80 volumes of spiritual literature translated into 30 languages, establishing Krishna temples across the globe and founding a spiritual community called the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) with its unique Vedic way of community living, an entirely revolutionary societal order in this modern materialistic age. Prabhupāda passed away in 1977 but his message persists as does his order of Vaishnavas, monastics and novitiates which continues to propagate Krishna's life and pastimes to humanity at large with a missionary zeal missing among other Hindu religious orders.

35. How many different ways to approaching God! All pure roads lead to Home because the Self is the same in all. Impurity fails though inevitably. There is no room for impurity in spirituality. 

36. Unbelievably low response to 'Swamiji's sayings'. Didn't expect it at all. Swamiji seems to be dead for devotees. Nonetheless, my crusade will continue in all its Vedantic blaze even if the wilfully blind will not see it.

Arise and spread the gospel that the Master and his anointed Apostle have freshly brought to our sinking world. Spread the message, bring home what the Christmas call 'the good news'.

41. Are we men? No, we are gods on earth, as yet largely unaware of our divinity. But some of us have awakened. And we must send forth the clarion call to all. The thrill of God-realisation none can resist  Only the necessary lapse of time must cover up all earthly lapses and deliver the deal divine.

42. Genuine optimism comes from tremendous self-belief which in turn springs from at least a semblance of perception of the Self. Netaji had this sort of undying optimism which kept him going despite the gravest of odds pitted against him by friend and foe alike. And that immeasurable love for the motherland that he bore and which he embodied.

43. Sri Ramakrishna is the hope of humanity. His all-embracing love will conquer. All opposition will be overcome. The world will capitulate before his boundless love. His Age has but begun. But his mission shall seek fresh channels under diverse garbs, even not bearing his name but in fulfilment of his ideals. Sri Ramakrishna is God. Can God be limited to one mission? His mission is one, that of spiritualisation of the whole of humanity within evolutionary bounds. And his missions are many in terms of individuals and organisations channeling his ideas and ideals, his energy derivatives through diverse modes and means. Ramakrishna is coming alive in the masses and we are thrilling to its dewy efflorescence.

THE VOICE OF TRUTH

We want a voice of authority and not apology, one who can stamp his authority on what he says, his authority stemming from experience and lived truth rather than truth read in books but unverified in experience. There must be power in his affirmations, a thunderous roll in his remarks that does not pander to the vanities of society, does not bow down to political or religious authority but hammers out truth as it happened, as it is happening and as it is in essence. No compromise, no apology, simply the truth pouring out like volcanic lava to metamorphose society unto a higher order of terrestrial and ethereal existence.

REST IN PEACE, THOU, 'REST IN PEACE'

How can one rest in peace when the swinging pendulum unceasing ticks time and atoms keep rolling to congregate and dissolve? Is there any rest anywhere save in final liberation when the fetters have fallen, the universe has melted away, God has died and Man awakened to his undying Being in his own Godhead when he witnesses his Self as the God he had always sought? Till then how can rest be? How peace? How 'Rest in peace'? Does life cease in a single stroke that peace shall irrational follow? It is not a single season that makes the year nor a lone lifetime that composes corporeal existence. The Abrahamic religions are wrong, far far off the mark in their estimation of truth. Thus the fanciful 'Rest in peace'. There is no peace in Phenomena, Māyā. Peace alone abides in the Absolute, the Brahman.

Anti-ideology need not mean anti-adherent. An adherent may have been by birth trapped into abiding by a certain ideology and cannot will his way out of it. But he may in terms of other human qualities be an excellent individual with a great capacity for spiritual unfolding which is right now being circumstantially impeded. But the ideology he is by birth and indoctrination being made to follow may be rotten to the core, anti-human, anti-life and utterly tribal and archaic with no place in a modern world of universal values, non-sectarian and human. To separate individual from ideology is then imperative. This done, it is easy enough to weed out the degenerate doctrines and arrive at a reformed view of life and truth. If the ideology resists reformation, it will have to be left alone to die a desolate death in the desert sands of disuse. Meanwhile, evolution carries on, humanity progresses.

READ THE GANGA IN THE GOMUKH

We need to read Sri Ramakrishna's and Swami Vivekananda's message direct and not through the lens of feeble preachers coming after them and interpreting them. The Master and his Apostle are direct enough, simple enough for easy understanding and need no intermediaries to interpret their message in the light of their fractional understanding for us to swallow and digest with altered understanding. This is how the messages of great spiritual teachers are lost to humanity as mediocre men of shallow intellect and inferior understanding take upon themselves the superior charge of instructing such to people. Come off this business of learning from such latter-day lights and go back to the original. Read Ramakrishna and Vivekananda as they truly were and not as they are made out to be in the fractured understanding, in the fractional interpretation, in the altered presentation as per the convenience of latter-day preachers and writers. Read the source books. Let none stand between Thakur-Swamiji and you. These original works are well available. Avail of them.

When a person is in deep distress, you do not scold him or ignore him or simply cast him away as so much trash. Humanity demands deeper empathy, acceptance and love that heals and restores health. Each person is divine and needs to be included in the scheme of things, not schemed out of reckoning or simply sold for a few copper coins that are valued more than flesh and blood. Life is a slit unto the vast background reality that is divine. Humanity is but the intermediate state, an opening unto the trinity of existence-consciousness-bliss. Must you fail to appreciate each life that is a beam of the infinite optical spectra rambling through countless pathways in countless universes, up, down and sideways? Do not neglect any. Each one is the Most High coming in myriad shapes through mystifying Māyā. Recognise the Real in the phenomenal, your own in distant deflected beings. The blood of immortality flows in all waiting to be spilled unto union with the Ākāsh Gangā. The stars blaze but appear to twinkle, such is the poetry of life, such the movie screened in the firmament of fertile dreams of fullest fruition in the fullness of time. Therefore, neglect none, be kind to all and loving in varying degrees to all who injure not life's possibilities in people. Read poetry in prose, melody in dry score and love in the lily that fades not with time. Bliss it is to be born, bliss to live and bliss to merge in the Mother who never forsakes. LESSONS OF LIGHT

1. Be simple. Do not complicate thoughts. Be straightforward. Do not go about meandering in life. The avenue is broad. The path is straight. Freedom is at hand. It is within you. It is your very being, your very existence, your deepest sense of 'I'. Affirm it. Do not wind about. Hit the mark right away.

2. The dog's curly tail remains curly however one may straighten it. Such is its elasticity. Likewise for society. Its conservatism, inertia, resistance to reformation is so intrinsic to it that almost all attempts to alter status fail till the right time comes when its organic capacity to evolve further has through experience been attained. Then society surges forward to the next phase of its life. Where it fails, it simply dies. Where it adapts and evolves, it lives. 

Mass movement is ever complex and full of conflicting forces resolving out motion. Hence, evolution often is better than revolution attempted out of raw impulse. Even revolution is a part of evolution, its climactic rapid change of order in the fullness of time, and revolution has its own dynamic, its laws, conditional constraints, circumstantial requirements and, most importantly, proper preparedness of the people who will revolve, for human behaviour is not deterministic that it can be delineated in terms of infallible laws resonating to time and space. There is a quantum behaviour of the mind akin to subatomic particles which is unpredictable and does not guarantee revolutionary results despite all other conditions being conducive to bringing it about.

They are shame, hatred/aversion, fear, honour, lineage, routinised observance, caste/class and the secretive impulse.

An utter loss of trust, of character in leaders who dupe the flock unto a fool's paradise each time while maintaining the status quo of brutal exploitation and the humiliation of humanity. I see no hope in this desperately sombre scenario save the lightning propagation of Swami Vivekananda by hundreds of thousands of committed preachers, fired by deepest sympathy for suffering humanity, and masculine to the core. No more effeminacy, no more an apologetic stance but bold delivery of the message divine unto every child, every youth and every man that cares to lend his ears. Vivekananda will bring us victory. Vivekananda is the way.

51. We, Hindus, are mushrikeen and proudly proclaim ourselves to be so. We reject all monotheistic absolutism on us, we being ourselves embodiment of the Absolute. We are embodied beings in Māyā and in essence the Brahman. Show us one Abrahamic faith that can philosophically stand anywhere near our profoundest Vedic thinking. Then and then alone we shall listen to their preaching which till then is the puerile prattling of the toddler taking his nursery steps in spiritual life.

52. I eat eggs, fish and meat throughput the year and will do so during the days of the Durgā Pūjā and the Navarātri this year as well. And I am a devout Hindu. Who dares challenge that? 

53. Political hero-worship is a bad practice in a Parliamentary democracy. Leaders encourage this to bolster their support-base for electoral gains. But this is very much a feudal practice and stands directly against the very spirit of democracy which calls for decentralisation of power. Assert your individuality and stop flattering your political leaders who play this crafty card on you. These very ones criticise those who do dynastic familial politics, and rightly so, but in raising themselves to some sort of imperial status are culpable somewhat to the same offence, albeit in a variant way. So, read between the lines and see through the mischief of ministers of public service for all their political posturing, for all their pious pretensions of course.

54. If a Christian or a Muslim comes to convert a Hindu to Christianity or Islam, it is the Hindu's right, nay duty, to ask him to convert to Hinduism instead. That will be a fitting tribute to these perfidious proselytisers operating under the cover of our Constitution. And that will be the practice of aggressive Hinduism in defence of the Dharma.

Human beings are as diverse as there are individuals and the more this diversity is allowed to flourish, the faster does society evolve towards the ultimate end of spiritual freedom in transcendence of the senses and the realisation of the Absolute. Society is like a meandering river flowing spontaneously---under universal gravity of course---unto freedom in the ocean ahead. The moment it is regimented, its flow flounders and desert sands consume the fragmented channels of water. What follows is everybody's guess.

61. Long long before Islam was born, Bangladesh, then Bhāratvarsha, was all Hindu. And Bangladesh was born of Islamic Pakistan which was born of Sanātan Bhāratvarsha. And both will return home one day to the mother fold. This is evolutionary destiny. Meanwhile Hindus suffer. And this sufferance must lead to victory for the Sanātanis without fail.

I feel sad when I see my Ramakrishna Mission friends who post on Thakur-Ma-Swamiji relentlessly, fail to respond to the existential threat which Bangladeshi Hindus are facing. Shame!

    Equally disgusted I feel with so-called Hindu liberals who question the BJP on every count but fail to even lodge an online protest against the jihadis who persecute Hindus anywhere, especially in Bangladesh where they are being decimated. Shame!

I refuse to forsake my freedom to any.

84. I can never respect a politician, however exalted in ministerial rank, who aligns himself with a fraud Guru or Baba who cheats people. Such charlatans, even if they do a lot of charitable work for society, are essentially corrupt and must not for political advantage be used to dupe people in bolstering relevant vote bank. There are umpteen number of such charlatans operating in the country and promoting superstition among the people. My pertinent question is this: Is this the path we have charted out to making India a developed nation (Vikasit Bhārat) by 2047?

This is hardly Hindutva of the type Sitaram Goel and Ram Swarup envisaged. No wonder the ruling dispensation neglects them. It even goes against the foundational principles of the Hindutva movement laid down by such seminal personalities as Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Guru Golwalkar.

86. Why do Miracle Babas and God Gurus not accept the challenge thrown at them by rationalist associations and in controlled scientific conditions prove their miraculous powers? Clever-talking Gurus of massive popularity ought not to be given such support. Politicians will use them as politicians are as corrupt as these charlatans. So, reject such politicians as well while you reject these Babas/Gurus/Godmen.

Let us open up avenues to seeking Truth. The vast field encompasses myriad routes to the Absolute which is not so absolute in rigid bounds as the ignorant would make It out to be but is in freedom fluid, frozen though in immobile Self-consciousness It is. A peculiar paradox of freedom in freeze, reflexive Self-consciousness, dimensionless boundlessness, an indescribable state with no creed to count as Its proselytising progeny. Unity in unity and diversity in diversity characterise Reality in Its Absolute state and reality in its relativistic states. The twain never can meet. Whither religion, regulated and regulating, expecting flock to follow or slaves to abide by and convert or exile or kill infidels by way of Divine mandate? Truth is not that. It is conceivably and inconceivably grand where the follies and foibles of earthly offspring in religious observance and political pursuit thereof seem like nursery rhymes before the epic-scale composition of genius. Thus must we not force any into submission to Man or to God but must facilitate the free flow of the soul or the mind toward wherever sincere aspiration leads---Truth, truths or the Void. "Let men be thinkers," Swamiji said. So, let avenues of thought be laid open for the grand army of humanity to march through the dark of this cosmic night unto hopefully the sunlit summit of Truth-Goodness-Beauty.

He died at 9.10 p.m. on 4 July, 1902 and was cremated at the Belur Math precincts the very next day, 5 July, 1902 at 1.00 p.m. So, Mahārāj (Jagadguru Mahāmandaleshvar Swāmi Paramātmānanda) is providing wrong information in stating that Swamiji could not be cremated for two days after his death owing to lack of personnel who could discharge the cremation duty, meaning thereby that none were ready to cremate a kayastha sannyasi as monasticism was deemed exclusive to brāhmans.

Incarcerating Chinmoy Krishna Das on fabricated grounds of sedition and denying his mother her last wish to see her son are the visible causes for the descent of the Divine which as per Sri Ramakrishna's prophecy is already due. Besides there are subterranean causes, subliminal drives of the persecuted of the earth, especially the Sanātanis, for the Lord to lighten their burden by descending in mortal clay, eliminating the evil-doers, their evil ideology and establishing the Perennial Philosophy (Sanātan Dharma) on earth to help humanity strike the necessary balance, the golden mean, for civilisation to continue along the righteous path, it having been much perverted by this perfidious faith of purely political intent. 🕉 Hindu!

Reality, apparent to the great scientific sage of modern times through mathematical symbols and their significance, cannot be compressed within the confines of petty sectarian understanding which Salam transcendended to be in union with it at a deeper level where these verbal differences do not matter anymore. That he was ill-treated to heartbreak, despised in life and death by his detractors in point of faith is one more tragedy in the long line of martyrs to truth. A day will come when religion, heaven, hell, an extra-cosmic God dispensing justice arbitrarily, religious reward and retribution---all these will go but Salam's insights into the world of matter, energy, force and field will persist as a perennial gift unto humankind groping its way through the labyrinth of space-time-causality, a beacon unto posterity building on it to unravel deeper realities that lie hidden in the fathomless womb of phenomena. Pakistan, indeed the whole Islamic world, would do well to honour Professor Abdus Salam in every possible way and follow his lead unto learning and light, instead of squabbling over narrow noxious readings of religious texts whose broader understanding would perchance quicken progress once more as in Islam's halcyon days when Hindu-Greek learning had ignited Islamic minds.

Sugata Bose @Sameer Banik : ISKCON has suffered at the hands of Bangladeshi jihadis in 2021 October when one of their staff was murdered in their temple premises and their temples vandalised and looted. I can remember three of their female devotees---a mother of 36 years, her daughter of 16 years and her niece of 10 years---being raped. Chinmoy Krishna Das was a renunciate of ISKCON but was expelled on some charges. Thereafter ISKCON distanced itself from him. ISKCON is a declared target of Bangladeshi jihadi organisations who have post the Hasina fall demanded its closure. ISKCON, therefore, is under significant pressure, existential threat, in Bangladesh. It have been repeatedly targeted by jihadis which keeps it from opening its mouth. The fate of Hindus and Hindu organisations in Bangladesh is simply pathetic. There is no room for protest at all. Protest led Chinmoy Prabhu to jail. So, there you see. 🕉 Hindu!

That we have such support in you hailing from distant Europe---although your long-time habitat has been India---encourages us to believe that we have kindred souls for our Sanātan cause across the world, and so inspires us to raise resistance that will secure our safety and sustain our millenia-old civilisation. No amount of thankfulness will suffice nor is it due to one who is more Sanātani than many born into the fold, for yours is by conviction, by choice and not by circumstance of birth or upbringing. This grand unity which the sages invoked among us, we have failed to secure or sustain for over at least a millennium now which has weakened us and is now threatening our eventual annihilation. But the message of the Rig Veda sung here is clear and we can heed it to save our civilisation. Else, great peril is in store for us.

All motion requires space in which to move, time which elapses in the process and the sequence of cause and effect which activates and executes motion. Everything that has relative existence, being subject to this trinity of space, time and causality, necessarily moves, that is, is subject to incessant evolutionary change and positional change, but Brahman, being the absolute existence, is beyond the aforesaid trinity of space-time-causality and is, therefore, unchanging, unchangeable, static snd stable in its unitariness.

The Vedic injunction on humanity is 'Charaiveti' (Onward), that is, the Vedic Rishis have urged humanity to move forward, to progress deeper into divinity which is its essence, ultimate destiny and its eventual destination. I have brought this Vedic exhortation in line with the principle of perpetual, unavoidable motion in Māyā (Nature) and harmonised the two ideas. 🕉
