Every victory over an external opponent creates a potential adversary. Every victory over your own self makes you freer with regard to the inner enemy. Fight if you will but better fight it out the right way, for your deadliest enemy lies within you, waiting to destroy you when you least suspect it, when you feel cushioned into a complacent self-security. The adversary outside may be potent, deadly, almost invincible, but it is visible, nonetheless. But the silent foe within is invisible, inscrutable in its designs and is, therefore, more formidable. India understood this dynamics ages ago and formulated principles for combating the enemy within. And that is the subject matter of our scriptures which in Sanskrit we call the 'shastras.'
