WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA ... 25

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA ... 25

Mob culture is becoming increasingly the order of the day as the polity, empowered by sparse education and consequent coarse awareness, and political backing at that, quickens to roguish attitudes under the slightest pretext. This sort of immature empowerment of the people could have catastrophic consequences in the long run as the culture of civic decency is eroded and replaced by ruinous roguery.

Politicians who, for gaining temporary political mileage out of situations, are fuelling this fire of mob frenzy must consider the end-point of this mobocracy. If they are so short-sighted as to naively believe that the forces so released by allowing such frequent violent outbursts of the mob in protest against contentious issues that confront them will in future be possible to contain within the bounds of governmental force and the operation of law, they are much mistaken. Democracy degenerated into mobocracy will bring ruin to this land where the former has made its habitat for the last seven decades.

It is time to reflect deep, introspect on the political attitudes that have overcome all the parties of this mother of civilisations and to then chalk out the best corrective measures towards tackling the innumerable problems that beset the nation. Education surely is the key to resolving these issues but it has to be quality education and cultural attunement that will successfully raise the consciousness of the masses and inspire them to build the nation and not destroy it.
