When law and order is a general problem, it is puerile to expect the entire mass of the public not to ever misbehave when under stress arising from loss of near and dear ones. But for it to spiral into mob violence is a poor reflection not only on the general character of the polity but also on the administration's capacity to provide adequate protection to the doctors.
The security concerns of the medical practitioners need to be looked into on a scientific basis and measures adopted beyond mere verbal assurances to the same effect. Between declaration of intent and the actual implementation of effective measures remains a gap whose magnitude is inversely proportional to administrative efficiency. The situation today in the state is grim and it remains to be seen how politicians who change personality colours like the chameleon to suit circumstances and self-interest will bring about a sufficient improvement in the greater orderliness of the State's health sector which ultimately will bring about the peace and security of the associated medical personnel.
Politics, today, is dirty business and is the open gateway to riches, privilege and power. As such, politicians will ever indulge in hooliganism to capture and retain power which in turn will create its broader downward spiral of mass unrest and violence whose reach will necessarily include hospital precincts as well. Thus, instead of attempting to reform society in the ministerial bid to contain violence, let ministers reform themselves. Society, now suffering from their evil machinations, will then automatically be the nursery for future efflorescence and not the hotbed of political violence unleashed even on serving doctors in hospitals.
