SEEMS A CM AT LAST
I was impressed by the CM's accommodating attitude today and her prompt declaration of positive measures to be adopted by way of combating the currently brewing problem centring violence directed against medical practitioners in government hospitals, in her meeting with the junior doctors at the Secretariat. Her forthrightness, keen intelligence and quick comprehension of the issues involved, her seeming sympathy for the cause of the common man and her quick wit in dealing with the proposals of the junior doctors thrown at her did mark her out well. Now it remains to be seen how far her administration follows up on the assurances given by her to the agitating doctors, for, as we know, verbal declaration is one and delivery of such in tangible terms quite another.
But the CM seems to be in charge of her support-staff pretty much and wields considerable influence over them. Should she be sincere in her assurances made --- and we ought to repose a gentlemanly faith in her spontaneous dictates regarding the same to her administrative subordinates --- then, she will have emerged triumphant from this virtual political debacle which she had led herself into and scored a massive political and moral victory in the end. But, as I said, it all depends on how deed follows word.
