SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 8

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 8

At about this time a series of unforeseen events brought Narendranath to the fountainhead of his future life -- Ramakrishna. Professor William Hastie at college had mentioned the name of the Paramahamsa while explaining the text of Wordsworth's poem, 'The Excursion', and had suggested to his students to visit Dakshineshwar to witness at first-hand the spiritual trance experienced by the sage, quite akin to what the Poet Laureate of England had referred to in his poem. The professor had added that such a state of ecstasy was brought about by intense concentration of the mind and by purity of being. Around the same time Ramchandra Datta, a relative of Narendranath, also urged the latter to visit Paramahamsadev one day if he, indeed, was serious about his spiritual quest and wanted a solution to his life's problems.
