SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 4

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 4

Narendra loved the company of mendicant monks who would come to their doorstep and he would give away by way of alms whatever he could lay his hands on. To contain him Bhuvaneshwari would lock him up in an attic but he would manage to throw down his father's clothes through the window to passing sadhus.

Often he would play with his mates at the sport of meditation and pass into the depths of it, totally unconscious of the external world. On one such occasion a cobra stood with outspread hood in front of the meditative child. His friends fled the scene but he remained mute and motionless, immersed in the ecstasy of his inner being. The cobra soon lid away without harming the boy.
