The Hindu Trinity is the collective principle of creation (manifestation), preservation and destruction as symbolised by Brahma (the creative principle), Vishnu (the preservative principle) and Maheshwar (the destructive principle). All three entities are the facets of an integrated being that is immanent in each, is the link that binds and runs through them, and, yet, transcends them all to dissolve in itself. It is the nameless, formless, essence of existence that devoid of attributes abides in Self-consciousness. It has no gender, is neuter as such and cannot be addressed in any way linked to language. Sages have called it 'Tat' (That). The famous pronouncement of the Chhandogya Upanishad (6/8/7), runs thus : aitad atmyamidam sarvam tat satyam sa atma tattvamasi Shvetaketu (That thou art).
