IN DEFENCE OF THE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION ... 6

IN DEFENCE OF THE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION ... 6

Now let us make an analysis of Sri Rantidev Sengupta's original post, dated 12 September, 2018, which has created such a furore on facebook and other social media.

TEXT OF ORIGINAL POST (FIRST PERSON BENGALI) OF RANTIDEV SENGUPTA RENDERED INTO ENGLISH IN THIRD PERSON BY SUGATA BOSE (Sugata Bose). THE FIRST INSTALMENT FOLLOWS :

At the very outset he admits that he had contemplated not to write anything as such about the issue under deliberation here. But then he changed his mind as he deemed it improper not to write a few words about the Ramakrishna Mission. He further declares himself to be in his personal life an initiated disciple of the Ramakrishna Mission. He adds that he did not undergo initiation having viewed the life of any monk of the Ramakrishna Order. He was instead inspired into receiving initiation by his unalloyed reverence and devotion to Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi or Sarada Ma, as he is used to addressing her. He further states that his spiritual preceptor, that is, the one who gave him spiritual initiation, is Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj. He bears limitless reverence for him as well.

ANALYSIS :
Barring his initial diffidence for obvious reasons and his overcoming his hesitancy thereof in writing about the Ramakrishna Mission a few words of critical examination, there is not much in this section that can rake up a controversy. To some the comment that the author (Rantidev Sengupta) was not inspired by the life of any monk of the Mission to decide upon receiving spiritual initiation there nonetheless, might seem to be the early brewing of the developing free criticism to follow in the latter part of the text. This particular statement was apparently the initial volley fired by him to create the platform for the declaration of more volatile intentions in the offing. Sri Sengupta's unalloyed devotion to Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi is heartening to hear and so is his declared devotion to his Guru, Swami Atmasthananda. The first section, thus, is an introduction to intentions that will soon follow.
