SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 12

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA -- HIS LIFE AND LEGACY ... 12

These three experiences of Narendranath were life-transforming. Later in America he openly acknowledged before the audiences that came to hear him deliver his famous lectures that his life had been transformed by the touch of the Prophet of Dakshineshwar. He further said that these living springs of spirituality, these fountains of inspiration divine, these moving pilgrimages were the proof of God and the repository of all that was sublime and real in an unreal world of ephemeral dreams.

Gradually Ramakrishna gathered round him a devoted band of followers who he trained to be his future apostles, the carriers of his mission on earth. Most of these disciples were householders but there were a few fiery ones, youths ignited into renunciation by the Master who were to form the nucleus of the nascent order of monks that was as yet in the womb of the unfolding future. The Master trained Narendra with especial care and exhorted him to take care of his brother disciples when he would be dead and gone. For times were difficult now as the sage contracted cancer of the throat which made him shift location from Dakshineshwar to Shyampukur first and then to Cossipore (Kashipur) where he breathed his last.
