IN DEFENCE OF THE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION ... 11

IN DEFENCE OF THE RAMAKRISHNA MISSION ... 11

The precincts of Belur Math are as holy as ever before and cannot be tainted by any attempted perversion through politics. Such fears are baseless and are motivated by political compulsions themselves. The grounds of Belur are as hallowed as ever they were, for they have been trodden by Swamis Vivekananda, Brahmananda, Premananda, Shivananda, Abhedananda, Saradananda, Ramakrishnananda and a galaxy of other spiritual luminaries, too many to take count of, and by none other than the Mother of the Universe, Sri Sarada Devi. Sri Ramakrishna reigns here in his subtle body and is maintaining his pledge to his beloved Naren that he would continue to stay wherever the latter would keep his remains after his passing away from corporeal frame.

Countless sages and saints and the intoxicated madmen of God have adorned the Math for over a century. It is the habitat of the holy, the sanctuary of sages, the confluence of all pilgrimages. Here harmony reigns amidst the conflicting currents of the world. Here synthesis lives out its mission in supreme sanity. Here a spiritual wave arises and 'inundates the world to its remotest corners'. This is the place where Mother reigns as the 'Sanghajanani' (Mother of the Order). Who can ever dilute the spirit of the site? Has any such been born yet or is anyone so insane as to 'rush in where angels fear to tread'? None, my friend, Rantidev Sengupta, none.

Rest in peace, Rantidev, that all will be well, for the dialectical process ever works to do and undo things before the resolution rests in synthesis. In this process may yours be the work of the harmoniser and never that of the antagonist for sure! My friend, my brother, my comrade in the cause of our common mission, may the monks of the Ramakrishna Mission, junior and senior without distinction, bless us all as we wend our way through the vicissitudes of life to the Lord who is the presiding deity of the Order, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadev!
