What we need is virile music as we march ahead and not soft romantic music that paralyses the soul into abject submission to the senses. The entire nation must be strengthened with the vigour of the Vedanta made practical in the light of the life of flesh and blood and not merely in the ethereal realm of abstract thought and contemplation. India must be dynamic if she must take her rightful place in the comity of nations. Else, in a fast-changing world she will fall hopelessly behind the other nations and once more shall fall victim to alien occupation in her hour of deep crisis or at a time of cataclysmic change in the world political scenario. Merely possessing a strong enough army will not do. The population must be trained in virile sacrifice for the nation so that freedom be preserved, the freedom that was won with such bloodshed and national torment.
This sort of sensuality, such debilitating softness becomes the effeminate individuals but must not be the national culture. All of national life must be made virile, a current beating to the drum of Shiva and not the flute of Krishna. There shall be another time for such romance of the soul. Right now may Mahavir Hanuman reign in our hearts, may Mother Kali sever our heads to adorn Her neck and may Sri Krishna wield the Sudarshan Chakra and Dhananjaya the Gandiv instead of passive, paralysing song and dance sequence of the commercial caterers of art weaken our resistance to all that threatens national life.
