PREACHER PERFECT

PREACHER PERFECT
Most people who preach religion are either apologists for worldliness or conformists to social usages, men who practically lack the character that would enable them to give a fiery utterance to the profound truths of the Spirit. These preachers merely pander to the vanities of the world. What is needed is a real man who can give utterance to his realisations in a thunderous tone like Swamiji did. Those who hear him must be able to say, "He spoke not as the scribes do but as one that spoke with authority."
Just such a man of prophetic power is the need of the hour when religion once more has become a mockery, as Swamiji famously said, and what the world needs is character. Who has that character among the preachers today whose burning words of wisdom will bore their way through the soul of his audience and transform their lives for good? Now it is preaching alright but the passage of words without the force of character backing them.
Intellectual gymnastics is not religion, neither sweet talk on Vedanta pandering to western modes of modern expression and catering to everything comfortable in the name of preaching the pristine truths of our ancient scriptures, but an austerity of living that will awaken in devoted followers that 'shraddha' (reverence) which will be life-transforming. Zeal is necessary like Swami Ranganathananda had and character like Swami Vivekananda was the embodiment of. Only then the ignition temperature will be reached and the world will be set alight with the fire of the Vedanta.
