SAUDI ARABIA, A PRISON-HOUSE FOR WOMEN

SAUDI ARABIA, A PRISON-HOUSE FOR WOMEN

Saudi Arabia is a prison-house for women. Yet, for the sake of oil, all great powers of the world, with their tall talks on feminism, do not take effective action against this noxious nation with its toxic ideology practised to pernicious perfection.

The state of Saudi women in the 21st century is one of subjection to medieval barbaric practices that need severest condemnation from the liberal intelligentsia and from liberal Muslims the world over. The horrific subjugation of women that leave them no human rights whatsoever save to live at the whims of their master menfolk is being bypassed in the name of internal national matter and being overlooked as secondary to international economic interest, for Saudi Arabia is the second biggest producer of oil which the major powers of the world need to keep their economies running. Civilisation has been held hostage thus to commerce and barbarism allowed to prosper in this wretched country where women are slaves.

In an age when women are asserting their rights everywhere, and rightly so, it is a stark contrast to what continues to happen day in and day out in the name of archaic abusive religious practices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Patriarchy reigns in its most toxic variation here and women are but secondary human beings with half the intelligence of men and, so, without the power for self-determination. They need a male escort if they go outdoors, cannot marry husbands of their own choice, must perpetually live under a male guardian, must cover their body wholly, leaving but silts for the eyes to see, and in all respects conform to the brutal injunctions of medieval times reinterpreted in the 18th century.

Today, in this age of interconnection, when the internet has brought the world together, there are oppressive states like Saudi Arabia yet operating with their medieval ideologies justifying their malicious agenda of patriarchy reduced to its most pernicious form. But world womanhood is awaking to the call for freedom and women's voices are being increasingly heard before they are silenced in solitary confinement. Such a sacrilege is being allowed by the dominant western powers who choose to look the other way to pursue their policy of profit-making by keeping the Saudi regime alive and kicking. It is a shame for these western democracies to be so blatantly indifferent to the cry of women across the oil-laden deserts of this unholy kingdom where misogynists rule.

P.S. : Sugata Bose : Read the article above which is evolving and expanding, and raise your voices against the oppression of women, thus, in this wretched kingdom of savage practices. Only a request. Do not politicise the issue nor pass noxious comments against Islam that would make human sympathy for these hapless women dry up in the hearts of devout and not-so-devout Muslims. May the moderate Muslims come to the fore and fight for justice on behalf of these bereft children of the Lord !
