THE POET AND THE PATRIOT

THE POET AND THE PATRIOT

The poet and the patriot. Mahajati Sadan, 1939. Memorable lecture by the poet hailing Subhas Chandra as the deliverer of the people, a messiah of the masses he had invoked decades ago in a similar address when he was not as infirm as he was now to render effective service to the cause of liberation.

Bose had visited Italy earlier to be inspired with the idea of establishing a hall for the emerging nation, a monument to its rebirth and a space that would encapsulate the vast geographical and cultural terrain of diverse India. Fittingly, Bose chose Tagore, the embodiment of all that was great and grand in India's heritage and culture, to inaugurate this house to the nation.
