LEST WE FORGET ... 1, 2

LEST WE FORGET ... 1

Our sympathies must not be limited to those we agree with but must extend to those who are pitted against us in argument as well. That is the precondition to the successful functioning of a democracy. Else, it will be a totalitarian approach towards the polity and portentous of impending breakdown of civil liberties. As such, we must all feel a sense of responsibility not only towards defending our Constitutional rights but in the same vein we must adequately discharge our fundamental duties that are enjoined upon us in the Constitution as well. Our respectful allegiance to the Constitution precludes the observance of all its principles and not a select few of our convenience while we choose to flout the rest with impunity on account of our numerical strength or position in the political hierarchy.

LEST WE FORGET ... 2

The combined philosophy of Gandhiji and Netaji in harmonic terms by seeking out their points of convergence and adding on some of their points of divergence is the national need today. Accepting one and rejecting another of these two seminal nation-builders, as is the wont with so many, is an unnecessary self-inflicted loss of national resource which we can ill-afford. Hence, the study of Gandhi and Bose is imperative today as we seek solutions to the ever-emerging crises which confront our national life.
