DID THE 'GREAT ESCAPE' TAKE PLACE THIS WAY?

DID THE ESCAPE TAKE PLACE THIS WAY?

How was it possible for Sisir Bose and Md. Ziauddin to drive away in the dead of night, escaping the attention of so many CID officers who were loitering in the area all around the house located at 38/2 Elgin Road? Was British intelligence at the height of the Second Word War so lax that it failed to detect this open escape? Did the escape take place this way or is there another angle to it altogether that has not yet come to the fore? What is the alternative account of the 'Great Escape' then? Who has the facts? Who will tell? I invite your responses.

We frequently hear the narrative of the escape of Netaji on the 17th of January in the guise of an upcountry Muslim insurance agent being challenged on Facebook by researchers but we have not yet got a coherent counter-narrative of the escape as yet. While we do see in the pertinent video, Dr.Sisir Bose narrating the chronology of the 'Great Escape' in hesitant terms, as if unsure of the sequence of events, which makes us wonder as to why he should be so reticent or plain hesitant in his manner of articulation, we do not get a counter-narrative where the gaps have been well-filled. The Sisir Bose story has been challenged by none other than Bhagavanji who has pulled him up in no uncertain terms. But the problem is that there is no coherent parallel account of the 'true' narrative as well from the doubting Thomases which leaves the public to believe in the former account by default.

There are plenty of loopholes in the entire story of the 17th January post-midnight escape and I leave them unto others to detail them. But loopholes are there in the other narrative as well and I invite researchers and scholars to give their uninhibited opinions here to uphold their respective stances in this matter. Has Netaji himself left behind any record that proves irrefutably his escape episode the way it has been recounted since the late sixties? Well, that would have settled the matter but, alas, even here there looms a large question mark !

1.35 a.m., 17 January, 1041. Bose escapes from house internment, evading the eyes of scores of intelligence officers and constables, whose sole attention was on the gates of the Bose residence on 38/2 Elgin Road. Is it believable that Sisir Bose drove away the car at such an unearthly hour through the cordon of intelligence officers lurking all around the house and no one raised even an alarm for nine days till the Bose family members themselves raised the alarm? Escape by car seems not only improbable but virtually impossible. The John Bulls of Scotland Yard were not so dull then, I believe, even by British standards !

Did the escape take place on the 17th early morning as stated at 1.35 a.m.? This would leave Netaji only 9 days of undetected time as it had been planned to disclose the affair on the 26th morning? Would it not have been better to have left a few days earlier? -- so some researchers conjecture, and they have their own supportive narrative to go by. So, what is the truth about the whole escape affair? I exhort all to contribute their thoughts, their opinions, and I specially urge the scholars in this field to enlighten us all by bringing in their researched material to bear light on this whole issue.

Jai Hind !
