ATITHI DEVO BHAVA

ATITHI DEVO BHAVA

अतिथि देवो भव is best exemplified in looking after the poor Indian citizens who are invitees to this world rather than wasting money on futile pomp and show to welcome the US President, serving him meals in gold and silverware specially designed and yet taking him to Sabarmati Ashram to pay homage to the one who would have repudiated all such extravagance indulged in at the cost of the suffering masses.

There is something called economisation and there is the other thing called wasteful expenditure. The Reception Committee under the auspices of the Government of India has opted, it seems, for the latter and, so, cast the burden of such waste on the poor man's purse if at all he has one.

Spirituality and all facile talk on it have now become a sham as materialism rules the roost in all its nakedness by extracting its pilgrim tax from the poor. 'Atithi devo bhava', indeed. I rest my pen here and my case with it.
