LIFE, DEATH, IMMORTALITY

LIFE, DEATH, IMMORTALITY

We are live people moving in the world of dead men. And it is but a brief flicker of a life which shall pass too. It is a mountain of skulls as Sri Ramakrishna had seen in a vision. Vast death engulfs us on all sides as we swim in a narrow water-strip of life.

And yet, beyond this river of life and the ocean of death lies the infinitude of immortality of the Spirit which is our essence which no death can touch nor life taint but which, ever remaining transcendent, reaches out to us through that faint call coming from the recesses of the heart which we care not listen to in our preoccupation with the flimsy things of life and stifle otherwise in our vanity of omniscience consequent on a little ill-digested data fiddled with even more insignificant rationality that poses to be the final arbiter in understanding the workings of phenomena.

'Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.' So the adage goes. And so let our vanities melt in our humbling experience of life and its transience, of death and its gripping power, and in our reflections on the liberating Absolute Self which is our abode, our essence, our destiny, our destination.
