He will yet excel and place fourth in the examination, securing first rank in English. Bose will thereafter go on to send tremors through the British Empire by renouncing his offered office of civil servant and joining in the ranks of the freedom fighters for India's independence. No amount of persuasion by the British authorities will help change his mind about his refusal to line up with the pernicious British administration that was keeping India in thraldom. And the rest is history.
