JOURNALIST, HISTORIAN AND ALL OF THEIR ILK

JOURNALIST, HISTORIAN AND ALL OF THEIR ILK

Journalism should be unbiased, especially when it comes to uncovering the truth of the disappearance mystery of Netaji. How can a preferential account based on preconception and bias be credible? Such narratives invariably will quicken public doubt and distrust thereof which will deepen disbelief in the said account and prove to be counterproductive for the propagators of untruth. Hence, honest pursuit of truth is more acceptable to the public in the long run and is worth more by way of cherishing as a journalist.

However, there is a catch here as well. The people must not be led into the blind alleyway of fantastic theories and conceptions by irresponsible writers and so-called researchers whose own credentials as scholars need examination, men who themselves harbour wild notions based on scanty and unconnected evidence and arrive at sweeping conclusions that suit their emotional needs more than their rational necessities, and men who thereon go about propagating such 'truths' with impunity on social media to attract attention to themselves while falsifying unwittingly historical happenings to which they were not privy.

Which way truth is, is a difficult proposition to gauge but the only scientific method would be to rely on the time-tested method of rational rigour which forms the basis for legal attestation.

Netaji, thus, stands at the crossroads of history awaiting final judgement by posterity on his fate post-disappearance which shall be the sanctioned and sealed account of it based on the best evidence finally available and its best analysis and approval gained thereby. Till we arrive at such an evolved hour when this eventual estimation of his fate will have been done, heresies, 'historical' and by dint of hearsay, will continue to thrive and entertain the public and they shall also enjoy and suffer the consequences of such propagation of false truth by the cartloads.

Jai Hind !
