RIP -- A COMMON MISCONCEPTION EITHER WAY

RIP -- A COMMON MISCONCEPTION EITHER WAY

Our souls do not rest in peace when the mortal frame perishes. Souls are ever active seeking fresher incarnation. Peace abides only when the soul is forever released from the trans-migratory cycle of birth, interlude and death. This is what the Indian dharma tradition says.

Rest in Peace is a Semitic concept that allows an embodied being only a solitary sojourn on earth followed by a long long wait in preparation for ascension to heaven.

Hence, those of the Indian dharma tradition deriving from the Sanatan Dharma who write RIP for a deceased person merely express their wish that the departed one may find a peaceful state in his or her passage from this world to the next and do not actually mean that the person will rest in the purgatory for expiatory purification in anticipation of the eternal heavenly abode.
