WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA ... 9

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA ... 9
------------------------------------------------
POLITICS, PERSONALITY AND THE PEOPLE

Indian politics is getting too personalised, too much centred on constant harping on the leader's name. This is feudal culture and not quite symptomatic of democracy. Impersonal issues ought to take precedence over creating this personality cult which the leader himself seems to enjoy very much and by constant self-reference attempts to deeply imprint on the psyche of the masses. Once in the past, decades earlier, this invariable and constant reference to the leader's name by the All India Radio we have been witness to and now history repeats itself. We have paid in the past for selling the citizen's self-respect in this undue adulation and we must ever be watchful that we do not fall into the same pitfall again.

Sycophancy for self-gain must stop. Else, overmuch of power-concencentration in a single man's hands could spell the danger for democracy. In this the leader himself must take the initiative to restrain his colleagues and comrades and party-men from going overboard in their bid to please him, but will he? He evidently enjoys such self-reference himself, what about others alluding to it. And this is the growing truth of the narrative everywhere in India and has been so, if not in a manner so pronounced, and it is this feudal culture that must be resisted and politicians, however exalted, brought to their senses so that they concentrate their efforts in dealing with contentious national issues instead of puffing up their own feathers in fanciful flight which will land the nation in the abyss of ignominy and ignorance. May the God of India's destiny (Bharatabhagyavidhata) preserve the people's sanity and prevent them from going berserk in undue adulation of key public servants !
