Sect after sect have arisen in India and there has been no violence meted out to them. But the Protestant Reformation met with such a violent Catholic reprisal. Millions died in the subsequent wars. In contrast the Indian dharma tradition has seen the continuous rise of sects which has maintained its purity and vibrancy. Religion has ever been freshly affirmed by sages and saints and divine incarnations who have through their renewed realisations given invigorating impetus to it and in the process enriched the age-old tradition of the dharma that dates back to prehistory and stretches forth its arms to the unborn future with the message of hope and humanity.
