It is strange that Christ could ascend bodily into heaven postmortem but required an earthly mother to give him birth. Why not a direct descent onto earth from heaven, even as a self-nurturing babe? Did theology come in the way or did the strictures of natural law after all prove too much for him to prevent such a self-reliance in earthly advent?
