Swami Vivekananda had seen through the fake culture of civility and fair play of the British long before the likes of Tagore saw through it. He had a clear conception of British intentions in India and had no illusions that they were here to modernise India and help usher it into the millenium. Swamiji had in America even once prophesied the doom of the British that is yet to fulfil at the hands of the Chinese. His ire was caused by his understanding of British atrocity and villainy over centuries across the vast mass of their conquered territories.
