IN RESPONSE TO, IN AGREEMENT WITH AND IN ELABORATION THEREOF OF DEBAPRASAD BHATTACHARYA'S PERTINENT POINT REGARDING BRITISH
SUPPRESSION OF THE FREE PRESS IN THE RULE OF THE RAJ

Sugata Bose : Britain and the West now criticise China for gagging the Press. What did Britain do here after committing the Jallianwala Bagh massacre?

Debaprasad Bhattacharya : Why after Jalianwalabag, even much before it resorted to this highly undemocratic action?

Sugata Bose : You are absolutely right, Debaprasad Babu. At every phase of their dirty reign in India, the British resorted to lies of every sort --- misinformation, misrepresentation of facts, outright lies, suppression of information, censorship of the Press and churning out a false narrative of the India story right from its ancient days. They divided us on the basis of false narratives of caste, sect and race, especially, their horrendous lie about the invasion theory of Central Asian Aryan tribes into India when there is no mention of such an epochal episode in the whole of the Vedas and our other early scriptural texts. Swami Vivekananda contested this European fictitious account and averred that the Aryans were very much indigenous people and that India was racially one.

Elaborate lies were woven in the nineteenth century by the bright but deceitful minds of Europe to promote their racial superiority theory. Moreover, the theory that the Dravidian is racially separate from the Aryan population of India is yet another myth craftily embedded in the European narrative of Indian history and, in consequence, into the psyche of us, Indians, who have been brought up to become Macaulay's children.

The word 'Arya' means 'the elder one' or 'the venerable one' and has nothing to do with race. Yet, persistent British and European emphasis on its racial connotation and dubious theories galore to substantiate such fabrication has become the accepted fact about our history internationally and in many a national quarter as well. It is time that we rise to the occasion of our nation's defence and set to the serious study of our history and heritage, not through the lens of these false portrayals but through original research and findings thereof. In it lies the best element of our nationalism, for what better way is there to serve the nation than to discover its basic idea hidden among the perfidies perpetrated against it by these European mercenaries and marauders worst of whom were the barbarous British who plundered, pillaged and perverted our wealth, health and national consciousness? Time it is to awake to the pitfalls they have laid even in leaving our land and to adopt effective measures to rediscover our national identity and reorient our national career along the lines laid down by the Rishis of yore.

India is racially one, geographically one despite a myriad diversity of terrain and climate, psychologically one and spiritually integrated in the vision of the Atman which is the sum and substance of our civilisation. Bande Mataram!
