MYSELF LAST, MY MOTHERLAND FIRST
When a man seeks his own benefit first, he always cites it as an excuse for neglecting the higher call of patriotism, of national duty. Sacrifice for the nation then is a rationalised option to be debated upon to one's own advantage and relegated to the wastebin of disuse. Such are the tendencies of the times in an age of ever-increasing selfishness.
Is this a citizenry after all that caters to private gain over public good? Whither the idealism of the revolutionaries who shed their life's blood for freedom?
