One cannot see Sri Ramakrishna by practising spiritual austerities. God is under no compulsion to accede to anybody's business demands which planned austerity is. Austerity, if unplanned and flowing out of love for the Divine, conduces to spiritual advancement culminating by His grace in His vision. But it is love that holds and that love must be pure, unsullied by desire of any sort that binds one to earthly affection or earthly aspiration. Freed of all carnal instincts, free of all emotional trappings, freed even of all sublime sensibilities which subtly hold the mind to potential gravitation towards lower propensities, the mind becomes fit to receive God's grace. Then bliss follows as the Divine rains His love back in the most beauteous of visions. Life is fulfilled. 🕉
