ARISE! AWAKE! ... 2

A hundred and thirty one years have passed since that momentous morn of 11 September, 1893, when an unknown young Hindu monk stormed the Chicago Parliament of Religions with his divine eloquence that marked a fusion point in world civilisation. After a protracted and laborious lecture tour for three years and a half, the warrior spirit returned home only to be thrown into another inspirational effort, his lectures from Colombo to Almora that stirred the nation to its depths. A second visit to the West in 1899 before he lay in state on 4 July, 1902, his body consigned to the flames that lit up Bengal into revolutionary activity culminating in the freedom of India on 15 August, 1947, while his spirit soared to the highest heavens for a much-needed rest before he returns to earth again to continue with his unfinished mission.

The Swami Vivekananda is no more with us physically. But his spiritual presence who can deny? We, his warriors in following, can testify to the life-transforming influence his life and message have had on us and, so, wish to bring to the door of all and sundry his words and his deeds, his life and his legacy that is our common inheritance. To that end here's our offering from his life's works for all of you.

Yours in Swamiji,

Sugata Bose
