SANGEETACHARYA AJOY SINHA ROY ... 1

The unassuming musical maestro, sitarist Sangeetacharya Ajoy Sinha Roy, disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan, spent his lifetime teaching what he had inherited from his Guru and, thus, he ensured that the legacy of the Seniya-Maihar Gharana lives on. While at Lucknow he studied the sitar under Baba Allauddin Khan. Later, he learnt Hindustani classical vocal music from Sri Suresh Chakrabarty. While as yet quite young he was so enamoured by the high-pitched sublime vocal renditions of the doyen of the Kirana Gharana, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, that he attempted to emulate him in the scale F-sharp and seriously damaged his vocal chord. This put paid to all his hopes of turning into a vocalist and he now shifted attention to the sitar. He manufactured his own sitar, the first one that he used as a young lad, so innovative was he.
