MUSIC AND ITS MALADIES ... 2

MUSIC AND ITS MALADIES ... 2

Do not go by an artiste's reputation in assigning him his musical status but listen to him perform before deciding it for yourself. More often than not you will find that reputations lie and genuine merit goes unattended. Thus is talent lost to humanity and culture suffers setback. So often a bright young artiste gives up his musical vocation for want of support, training and opportunity while veterans, long past their prime, keep adorning the stage, no more by dint of performance but by reputation, now bolstered by gaudy apparel, affectations and the stupendous stupidity of the masses who go to give them audience. Such a culture, proliferating ever more, is terribly injurious to the musical tradition and needs an effective counter. Also, the dynastic dispensation of the children of stalwarts being allowed the privilege of forcing their way in to the big stage by dint of connections and the foolishness of the gullible public must be effectively counteracted to ensure the musical health of our nation.
