The problems faced by most exponents of classical vocal music are as follows :
(a) lack of innate talent
(b) lack of sufficient sensibility for exquisite rendition
(c) lack of adequate training under a qualified Guru
(d) lack of the sense of economy and proportion
(e) lack of lifelong practice from childhood, daily, uninterrupted, at dawn and at dusk
(f) lack of continence that will sweeten the voice, deepen the tenor and make for penetrative power and atmospheric resonance
(g) lack of sufficient strength of character that can overcome the temptations of the ephemeral pleasures that distract one from sadhana
(h) lack of enlarged spiritual vision
(i) lack of absorption in the rendition unperturbed by audience presence
(j) lack of the impelling sense of self-fulfilment, and the undue desire to sing to the gallery
(k) lack of sublimity of feeling and elevated emotion in every fibre of the being
(l) lack of love
(m) lack of high idealism and philosophical profundity
(n) lack of ethereal sense
(o) lack of sufficient cross-currents of consciousness that help flourish creativity
(p) lack of sufficient power of improvisation within bounds so as to colour up the raga but not disturb harmony
(q) lack of sustained concentration during rendition with the music flowing uninterrupted like the unbroken flow of oil in meditation
(r) lack of sufficient sense of rhythm
(s) lack of sufficient sense of poetry
(t) lack of musical sense, refined, sophisticated, sublime.
For all these inadequacies the singer suffers from, his / her rendition becomes commonplace, sterile.
