SYAMA PRASAD MOOKERJEE -- A GREAT MAN MURDERED IN LIFE, AND MALIGNED IN DEATH BY SENSELESS FOOLS
What a developed personality Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was ! He rocked Parliament with his fiery speeches. 'Ek vidhan, ek nishan, ek pradhan' was his unifying clarion call for the integration of Jammu and Kashmir to India. His entry into the state without permit, as was the stipulated requirement then, cost him his life. Imprisoned and injected with a drug which he was allergic to and confined in horrendous conditions amidst the biting wintry Kashmiri cold, Syama Prasad Mookerjee passed away under suspicious circumstances that has permanently cast a shadow on Nehru's intentions regarding him, in conjunction with Shaikh Abdullah's. Who knows when, if ever, the truth will surface and the great man's tortured end will be avenged? Meanwhile one only hopes that the senseless province of his birth, Bengal, will learn to honour him for all he did for its survival against the odds of its going to the clutches of Pakistan, and not continue to bait him for its perfidious delight in self-destruction.
