A STRANGE APOLITICAL ENTITY, THIS
Does being apolitical mean than an organisation or an individual will never voice its protest against indignities heaped on humanity by the powers that be? Does such a cowardly stance arise simply out of being apolitical or does it stem from the sheer ease of living a life of convenience and compromise that risks not conflict with the claws of governance and the brutal bite of oppression? What spiritual or material good can come from such a compromise with cowardice, such a falsification of truth through unlived scriptural principles and such an apathy for hundreds of millions suffering the age-old tyranny of the exploitative forces that be, be they the erstwhile colonising powers that ruled the world or the neo-colonisers of the day or the capitalist class that sucks the lifeblood of billions through sophisticated methods of commodity exchange that tilts the economic balance heavily in their favour, reducing the masses to beasts of burden? Must individuals and organisations of importance not voice their concerns over pertinent issues that adversely affect the lives of billions or is it fine for them to brood on the higher verities of life alone while drawing from society all its benefits that accrue unto them from exchange of the very blood of the people they choose to be indifferent to?
