21 OCT., 1943 -- 21 OCT., 2018 --- 75 YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS ... 2

Netaji was not the first Prime Minister of India in the sense that it is commonly touted about in social media. The first Provisional Government of India was formed in Kabul, Afghanistan on 1 Dec., 1915 by Indian nationalists aided by the Central Powers during World War I. Its members were as follows :

Mahendra Pratap ... President
Maulana Barkatullah ... Prime Minister
Deobandi Maulavi Ubaidullah Sindhi ... Home Minister
Deobandi Maulavi Bashir ... War Minister
Champakaraman Pillai ... Foreign Affairs Minister

For reasons historical this Government failed in its ultimate objective of liberating India from the clutches of the British Crown but had in setting itself up laid the foundation for future work along similar lines which eventually took shape on 21 Oct., 1943 when Netaji formed the second Provisional Government of India which he dubbed 'Arzi Humumat-e-Azad Hind' or the 'Provisional Government of Free India'. In this government Netaji was the Prime Minister and Minister of War and Foreign Affairs. In that sense he may be rightfully called our second Prime Minister after Maulana Barkatullah with Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as the third Prime Minister.
