AMNESIA THAT IS HURTING NATIONAL INTEREST
AMNESIA THAT IS HURTING NATIONAL INTEREST
The freedom our forefathers fought for is not being highlighted in its true colour before the young of our country. Hence, character in the youth is not developing, neither patriotism worth the salt. The result is moral decadence everywhere. This is surely not progress in the right direction but is a regression of sorts where the promise of independence has been largely thwarted. We need to revisit the past, those difficult days of dependence, a nation denied its right to self-determination and being looted left, right and centre by a colonial-imperial power of malefic motivations towards the colonised, all couched in the language of high civilisation, as if we were a barbarous lot that needed British help to overcome brutish behaviour, a sad self-reflection on the interior of the colonising power. But sad it is that we have ourselves laid aside the glorious heritage of the freedom fighters and replaced it with crass commercial culture which we flout about, as if it is our true identity, forgetting our martyrs to the motherland's freedom. We must reverse this trend if we are to develop our children in the right mould for our nation's blossoming future which in the current scheme of things appears bleak. A radical change in the education policy is thus needed and the sooner it is done, the better. This much and much more we owe it to our martyrs and to the unborn generations who will duly inherit the legacy.
