WHEN PREACHING PANDERS TO WEAKNESS AND DEBILITATES SYSTEM

A certain amount of gravity in spiritual preachers does the audience good in countering Maya. Levity and humour have their due places in a spiritual discourse, perhaps, but outright levity and a pandering to sensory weakness through consistent drawing on material allusions infatuate the audience further to the world, the weakness stemming from a loss of concentration on the higher elements of the discourse and a consequent falling in to the unwittingly laid verbal trap. This is why Swamiji was never tired of stressing on manliness, for manliness counters Maya. Preachers shorn of this attribute do disservice to the flock by inducing terrible weakness in them after having opened up their minds and nerves to receiving the spiritual stimulus which is sadly lacking despite the best of intentions.
