THE BENGAL HOLOCAUST AND OUR CALLOUS AMNESIA

THE BENGAL HOLOCAUST AND OUR CALLOUS AMNESIA

Do we Bengalis remember the victims of the British-induced Bengal Famine of 1943 the way the Jews remember the victims of the Holocaust? The Jews make every attempt to keep the flame of nightmarish memory of their tragedy alive while we Bengalis have conveniently allowed our tragedy to slip into oblivion. It must not be so. The Bengal Holocaust must be remembered too and the British made to feel a continuous sense of shame for it. Must the lives of five million Bengalis simply go in vain? Is life so cheap, so very cheap?
