Hindu fanaticism must not be fuelled to meet Islamic fanaticism. This will weaken the Hindus. Hindus must be strengthened in every sense so that they can defend their faith, their culture and their civilisation against aggressive proselytising by Islam and Christianity. It is strength alone which is invigorating and does not degenerate a race overtime. Hence, it was strength that Swami Vivekananda had stressed on as being imperative for the people of India in their bid for reassertion as a vibrant civilisation. And this strength must come from the Upanishads and not from new-fangled political philosophies which fuel fanaticism more than they build up the strength of the Hindu polity. If any political movement has to do genuine service to the cause of the Hindus, it will have to root itself in the Upanishads and not in the Puranas with their specific areas of spiritual emphasis. The Upanishads, on the other hand, are universal in their appeal and are founded on the rock-solid basis of philosophy which can easily stand the test of the rational sciences and come out triumphant. Moreover, the Upanishads being universal in scope, they can enfold within themselves the whole gamut of religious experience the world over and can, thus, absorb all such Semitic trends towards the Spirit as are represented by Islam and Christianity, the two major threats to the survival of Hinduism. Hence, all Hindus must be well groomed in the message of the Upanishads and what better way to do so than to train them in the doctrine of the Bhagavad Geeta which is the spiritual essence of all the Upanishads? This has to be achieved and for this the wide dissemination of Sanskrit is the sine qua non to begin with.
