THE STRANGE PREDICAMENT
Strange that Netaji did not once publicly protest against Hitler's persecution of the Jews despite being present bodily in Germany at that time! Could it be that he did not know anything about what was going on? Nor then nor thereafter did Netaji voice protest by way of saving the Jews from terrible annihilation. Would pragmatism in politics justify this silence? Was Indian independence worth more than the annihilation of an entire human race which the Jews represented in this case? The question looms large even today as we brood whether national interest ought to outweigh global interest, whether humanity is to remain divided as nations, sects and ideologically opposed groups, whether the time has not come for humanity to stand together, free of nationalistic, religious or ideological pretensions that separate man from man.
