IN HORROR AND DISGUST BUT HARBOURING YET A HOPE

IN HORROR AND DISGUST BUT HARBOURING YET A HOPE

Instead of meekly preaching the Vedanta of little consequence in America, Swami Sarvapriyananda should speak to the leaders out there about nuclear disarmament and the immediate need for global peace and protection of the environment. Had Swami Vivekananda been alive today, he would have run to the ends of the earth to save the world from environmental and nuclear destruction instead of sitting in parlours preaching 'existence, consciousness, bliss' which is of no use in a scenario that threatens the end of humanity by human hand.
The Ramakrishna Mission should go all out to send powerful speakers -- assuming they have any to match the challenges of the times -- to the West to bring about human rapprochement which shall rescue the world. China and Russia should be approached as well to allow for peace meets and the Indian government should wake up to this need to address the civilisational crisis that threatens the world. Whither are we headed if not annihilation when we are so preoccupied with puerile pastimes while the environment heats up to set us all on fire?
But there is a ray of hope as yet. After all, the enemy of man is man himself and, therefore, if man-making is possible at last which was the dream of Swamiji, as yet unattained in the rightful measure and to the intended end, this global problem of looming catastrophe may be yet averted by strong men befriending man instead of considering him arch rival and adversary worthy of elimination at the slightest pretext for which, after all, nations like America prepare daily with ever increasing armament.
