OF GURUS, BABAS AND THEIR ILK

OF GURUS, BABAS AND THEIR ILK

Sri Ramakrishna used to say that he could not bear the epithets 'Guru", 'Karta" and 'Baba'. Now these Gurus and Babas are ruling the roost in the market of Indian popular religious culture. 'Karta' has become outdated somewhat and has been substituted by 'Bapu', 'Sri Sri' and the like. Glorious development in an age when even the Avatar has been flouted and bypassed, and such transgressions have, on account of gross ignorance of the masses regarding real spirituality, found favour with them.
These dupers, these deceivers in delivery of delirious dreams in the name of high spirituality, these rogues of popular religion must be side-lined and Hindus must seek spiritual succour in their rich tradition of sages and saints, seers and divine incarnations, and in their spiritual literature and scriptures. Only then will the atmosphere be cleansed of these perfidious preceptors who make money out of religion which today is the best profession in a failing economy for, as they say, in this line of commerce there are no business cycles that affect trade, provided the manipulator of the public mind has mastered his art well enough to sustain him through all seasons.
