THE ELECTION THAT NEVER WAS BUT WHAT IF IT HAD?

THE ELECTION THAT NEVER WAS BUT WHAT IF IT HAD?

Could Gandhiji have defeated Subhas Chandra Bose in the 1939 Congress Presidency election were he, hypothetically speaking, to contest it? As it had turned out, the Mahatma's candidate, Pattabhi Sitaramaiyya, was soundly defeated by Bose to emerge President and the Mahatma accepted it, perhaps mischievously, as a personal defeat. So, if we indulge in a bit of a thought experiment, what will be our take on the outcome of this fanciful election? Please feel free to participate and, if possible, state why you think this epic election would go this way or the other.
