THE ARMED FORCES, A MINE OF INSPIRATION

THE ARMED FORCES, A MINE OF INSPIRATION

When I had lost hope in life and thought that all vocations including the spiritual one had been compromised, I sprang to life again, fired by the inspiration of the soldiers of the Indian armed forces. Their strength of character, spirit of service and sacrifice, uncompromising patriotism and tremendous idealism in life and in death, in victory and in defeat made me realise why Sri Krishna, himself a great warrior, had preached the Bhagavad Geeta to the premier warrior of the age, Arjun. I could comprehend in a flash why it was that the warrior kings, the kshatriyas, had discovered the Upanishads, the climactic philosophical development of the Vedas.

The history of our armed forces must be studied and drawn inspiration from. There lies true nationalism without an iota of self-interest to serve save to live for the motherland and to die for her so that she may get eternal life and her children may breathe in secure peace.
