ZEROING IN ONTO TRUTH
The national will must be strengthened. Our resolves must be unified. And the way to do it is to be aware of the national history, to be immersed in the national heritage so that the ideal which the nation stands for from time immemorial is imprinted deep in the psyche and becomes fruitful in concentrated collective activity.
The search for the divine within this human form has been the fundamental impulse of this nation. The ideal of the Indian way of living has ever been the seeking of liberation from the endless cycle of birth and death and the divinising of human life in the process. The thrust of our civilisation has ever been the seeking of the permanent in this ever-shifting dream of impermanence. The method has been introspection and analysis, purity and renunciation, devotion and desirelessness. A vast array of modes and means to realise the divine has been discovered and it is up to the individual aspirant to select the path whereby he will travel towards the divine end. This is the option available to all, the worship of the Ishta or the Chosen ideal, this the democracy of the whole spiritual movement of India.
This, then, is the flow of our preeminently spiritual civilisation and we, being units of its being, must conform to this basic impulse and strengthen its eternal current to the best of our ability. In it lies our individual and collective well-being. Theoretically, all this is fine but in practice we must combine as a nation to lend it solidarity of purpose and performance in its onward march to its destined end. In our unity of will, effort and direction lies the future greatness of our nation.
