THE DOTS AND THE GAPS IN SWAMIJI'S COMPLETE WORKS

THE DOTS AND THE GAPS IN SWAMIJI'S COMPLETE WORKS

Purposeful editing of Swamiji's works to maintain 'political correctness' has reduced the intensity of his recorded speeches. I believe not all the dots that so frequently appear in his more aggressive lectures are there because the chronicler could not duly record them. There is more to it it seems. Organisational interest and civic propriety seem to have played their part in thus emasculating in some measure some of his more volatile passages. Swamiji has sadly been edited to relative inertness thus. Would it were otherwise!

What Swamiji had thought fit to utter ought not to have been edited to such debilitating effect. Some of the volatile passages have been left intact but one harbours a lingering suspicion that other like passages of even greater volatility which had then inflamed the hearts of men have been purposefully tampered with in terms of omission of the most electrifying but controversial observations with a view to maintaining social, communal and international harmony. It was not well done.

Nobody has the right to touch a seer's, a prophet's observations on humanity, especially of one as great as Swamiji, for they are charged with truth. We are suffering its due consequence. Swamiji's original appeal has thus been marginally or even significantly reduced. Those that had heard him in person would vouch for it perhaps. We can only conjecture.
