SUSPICION, THOU FAITHFUL FRIEND OF THE THOMASES THAT EVER DOUBT

SUSPICION, THOU FAITHFUL FRIEND OF THE THOMASES THAT EVER DOUBT

Suspecting people finally becomes such a habit that it turns into a characteristic trait so much so that one loses one's faculty of having simple gentlemanly faith in another's word. Everything must be verified, every bit of talk cross-checked. Gone are the days of languid strolling in the meadows, rambling in the sunshine of youthful folly, passing the idle hour in earnest repose. Now it is talking to elicit information, verifying by cross-questioning, cross-checking facts before arriving at any conclusion regarding even commonplace facts of life that come about in casual conversation. Doubt, disbelief, suspicion and scepticism have now become second nature and faith taken its flight to simpler habitats in simple souls. No wonder Sri Ramakrishna had famously said, "Simplicity comes to a person in his last life (in the onward transmigratory cycle of birth-death-rebirth)."
