IN RESPONSE TO A QUERY AS TO WHAT MY TAKE IS ON THE BUILDING OF STATUES BY WAY OF HONOURING THE GREATS

IN RESPONSE TO A QUERY AS TO WHAT MY TAKE IS ON THE BUILDING OF STATUES BY WAY OF HONOURING THE GREATS

Sugata Bose : What next -- 200 m high Netaji statue?

If so..... Do you have any problem ?

Sugata Bose : How does it matter? Do you, by the way, have a problem at the construction of such a statue or at mine having supposedly a reservation about such a construction? If so, then, pray, why?

At any rate it must be understood that all investment ought to be done productively and for development of the human condition here in India. If in the collective good sense of humanity it is deemed that statue-making is the call of the hour, then so be it, although, I will ever have my reservations about it. If, however, better sense prevails and constructive programmes of perennial welfare be undertaken by the government, I will be delighted all the more. My personal take in this matter hardly matters to the nation, although, I will continue to harbour my doubts about the sanity of engaging in such unproductive investment to the neglect of the masses who daily live lives of destitution and die in indignity through self-inflicted destruction when they are unable to bear the tyranny of the times.

There are umpteen ways of showing respect to a great man of seminal contribution to the nation and statue-making is the easy way out in my estimation. Better build universities, scientific research facilities, hospitals, environment conservation projects, departments for saving dialects under the threat of extinction and a host of other developmental projects that will conduce to lasting human welfare and bring about a tolerable standard of living for the poor who are now being crushed by the tyranny of the tycoons.

If Sardar Patel must be propped up thus in physical altitude to counter the unwholesome propagation of the cult of Nehru, it is understandable but let it not open up now a Pandora's box of despicable desires seeking affirmation in concrete terms or in terms metallic. That will be the disaster of a project promised by the Prime Minister for a different purpose in political balancing, perhaps.

A question remains to those who question me about my motives regarding this issue. How many of you are willing to sacrifice your entire wealth for building a like statue of Netaji and thereafter standing beside the destitute on the pavement seeking subsistence somehow? Upon your answer lies your honesty, integrity and intent.

Vande Mataram !

The same people r responsable for low human standard when they supporting Rohingas , Bangladeshi refugees to allow to stay forever in India ...
I know it is a problem for some people that the world Tallest statue build in a "POOR" country like India.
Sir, what are the popular oscar winning Indian movies ? All flims which show the poverty of India. That's how it sell.
We the new generation r refuse to accept this ..... we Indians r capable and doing great things worldwide without any 'REFERENCE ' or NAMEs. We r the citizen of a powerful country. And yes in my country, we will fight every issue , every problem along with doing great things that will surprise the world.

Jai Hind.

Sugata Bose : You are getting me wrong entirely, Angshuman. I understand very well the implications of building this statue as a counter narrative in construction to the Nehruvian dispensation which has monopolised the nation's civil enterprises thus far, and I have mentioned so in this post if you have gone through it carefully. I have merely raised counter issues as ought to be done by a conscientious writer and social commentator whose thoughts ought to act as a reminder to the polity of the more pressing needs of the hour. Your patriotic feelings are very much appreciated by me and I exhort you to put them into fruitful social action so that many benefit from your labour of love. God bless you for your concern for the nation and may you keep in touch with me for we have much to do for the motherland!

Vande Mataram!
